Lagoons

Water Features

The most common synthetic membranes used as liners for lagoons, ponds and lakes are polyethylenes of high density (HDPE) or low density (LDPE), also Polypropylene. LDPE or Polypropylene are preferable if the design of the lagoon liner is an irregular shape and precise detailing is required. Where rapid installation is required, it is possible to prefabricate in a reinforced Keytec 642 liner.

Application

Both LDPE polyethylene and Polypropylene have the distinct advantages over HDPE because of their flexibility. Whereas HDPE is a more rigid membrane with much less flexibility, it has a slightly better puncture resistance and chemical resistance over an LDPE membrane.

It is recommended that the soil conditions should be taken into consideration when selecting a membrane for lining a lagoon, and that a geotextile is used to protect against sharp and angular stones underneath and on top of the membrane, when back filling. If you are unsure which to select, we will be pleased to offer our advice on the grade to use with the membrane application.
