Ponds
Water Features
The most common synthetic membranes used for lining ponds, lakes and lagoons are polyethylenes of high (HDPE) or low density (LDPE), also Polypropylene. LDPE or Polypropylene pond liners (or for lining other water features such as a lake or lagoon) are preferable if the design of the water feature is an irregular shape and precise detailing is required. Where rapid installation of lining material is required, it is possible to prefabricate in a reinforced Keytec 642 liner.
Application
Both LDPE and Polypropylene liners have the distinct advantages over HDPE liners because
of their flexibility. Whereas HDPE is a more rigid membrane with much less
flexibility, it has a slightly better puncture resistance and chemical
resistance over LDPE.
It is recommended that the soil conditions should be taken into consideration
when selecting a membrane as a pond liner, lake liner or lagoon liner, and that a geotextile is used to protect against sharp
and angular stones underneath and on top of the membrane, when back filling.
If you are unsure which to select, we will be pleased to offer our advice on
the grade to use with the membrane application.
