REED BEDS
Reed beds are used by the water industry for the treatment of ‘brown' water in the small rural communities. This approach to water treatment is environmentally friendly and requires 5 m ² of bed per head population. Industry also favours the use of reed beds in the treatment of their production process water. For example in the brewing and mining industries.
LINER
Our approved product Keytec 642 can be supplied and installed by Keytec technicians.
Keytec 642 is a low density Polyethylene (LDPE), with
a polyester reinforced scrim having a proven performance record, exhibiting
high tensile strength and UV stabilisation to withstand the effects
of the environment.
We are able to fabricate this product into panels, thus minimising
site welding, which allows for rapid and secure installation in poor
weather conditions.
APPLICATION
The excavated reed bed base is lined with sand or Geotextile and the
fully welded prefabricated liner is installed to the formation. Where pipe
penetrations occur, top hat sections are welded and sealed to the main
membrane. The bed is then overlaid with Geotextile to protect the liner
from puncture as the bed is filled with gravel. Having already installed
pipe inlets and outlets the gabions are filled with stone at opposite
ends. The bed is then planted with Phragmites australis reeds
which passes the oxygen down the root system ( the Rhizosphere). Polluted
water around the roots is then purified by the dense population of micro-organisms
living in the Rhizospere which destroys harmful bacteria before the water
is discharged into stream or rivers.
